Easy Enchilada Sauce

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons all -purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

Method
 

  1. Heat oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute until bubbly and light brown.
  3. Add chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and cumin, whisking for 30 seconds to toast the spices.
  4. Slowly pour in the broth while whisking constantly to prevent lumps.
  5. Whisk in the tomato paste until fully incorporated.
  6. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook for 5 to 7 minutes until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in the salt.
