Iced Matcha Latte

Ingredients
  

  • 1.5 teaspoons ceremonial grade matcha powder
  • 2 tablespoons hot water (80°C/175°F)
  • 1 cup cold milk (dairy or plant-based)
  • 1 teaspoon simple syrup or honey (optional)
  • 1 cup ice cubes

Method
 

  1. Sift the matcha powder through a fine-mesh strainer into a small bowl to eliminate clumps.
  2. Pour the hot water (not boiling) over the sifted matcha powder.
  3. Whisk vigorously in a zigzag motion using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or an electric frother until the powder is fully incorporated and a fine froth forms on the surface.
  4. Incorporate the liquid sweetener into the matcha concentrate if desired.
  5. Fill a glass with ice cubes and pour the cold milk over the ice.
  6. Slowly pour the prepared matcha concentrate over the milk to achieve a layered effect.
  7. Stir gently with a straw or spoon before drinking to integrate the flavors.
